Have you ever felt anxiety, depression, guilt or stress come upon you?  Have you felt as if a
heavy weight was upon your shoulders?  You know people are depending on you, looking
up to you, counting on you to bring you and them through.  You feel up to the challenge;
after all, you don’t want to let anyone down or disappoint them; your image and reputation is
on the line.  Yet somewhere deep down within you, you know all of this pressure is
somehow getting the best of you.  You pray and it seems to let up, at least for a little while;
but then something is said or done that immediately reminds you of the millions of things
floating around in your mind.  You try to pick out just one to concentrate on thinking that at
the moment, that’s all you can handle.  But once you open the floodgate, the thoughts,
concerns, and even worries rush in like a mighty river. “No problem,” you say because you
know you can handle it. After all, if you couldn’t, God wouldn’t have put it on your plate
because scripture tells you that He will not put anymore on you than you can bear. Yes, God
knows who we are and what we can do. The big question is, do we know ourselves?
Some of us try to be superheroes, supermoms and superdads. We want to look perfect in
the sight of our children and others. We want others to see the devotion and dedication we
give to our families. And we want them to see the world’s most perfect angels when they
look at us, our children or examine our marriage. But if only they could see what goes on
behind closed doors... well let’s just say we’re thankful they don’t.
